5 Lesser-Known Logic Pro Workflow Tips to Boost Your Productivity
Jan 23, 2025Today I’ll share five of my favorite workflow tips in Logic Pro. These tips might be lesser-known, but they can make a big difference in speeding up your workflow and enhancing your music production experience. Let’s dive right in!
1. Import Settings from Another Logic Project
Reusing settings from other projects is a breeze in Logic Pro. Instead of manually recreating channel strips, plugins, or sends, you can import them directly from another Logic project:
- How to Do It:
- Go to File > Import > Logic Project.
- Select the project you want to import from.
- Choose which settings to bring over—content, plugins, sends, input/output routing, automation, or notes.
- Add these to a new or existing track in your current session.
This feature is especially useful for creating consistent vocal chains across multiple songs or reusing mix settings from previous projects.
2. Low Latency Mode for Better Recording
When working with large sessions, latency during recording can be frustrating. Logic Pro’s Low Latency Mode temporarily disables plugins and sends that introduce latency, making it easier to record in real-time without delay.
- How to Enable It:
- Go to Record > Low Latency Mode.
- Orange indicators will show which plugins are bypassed.
If there are plugins you want to keep active (like reverb during monitoring), right-click and choose Low Latency Safe to exclude them from bypassing.
3. Capture Record: Never Lose Your Ideas
Ever played something amazing but forgot to hit record? Logic Pro’s Capture Record feature has your back! It lets you retrieve your last performance, even if you weren’t recording.
- How to Use It:
- Play your software instrument using your MIDI controller.
- Click the Capture Record Button or press Shift + R.
- Your performance will appear on the timeline.
If you don’t see the button, enable it in Customize Control Bar and Display. Bonus tip: add the Low Latency Mode button here too!
4. Chase MIDI Notes for Seamless Playback
By default, MIDI notes won’t trigger if playback starts in the middle of a note. This can disrupt your workflow when editing or previewing MIDI tracks. Enabling Chase MIDI Notes ensures notes will play no matter where the playhead starts.
- How to Enable It:
- Go to File > Project Settings > MIDI.
- Under Chase, enable Notes.
Now, every MIDI note will sound, even when playback begins mid-note.
5. Plugin Link Button for Streamlined Editing
Managing multiple plugins in large sessions can get overwhelming. Logic Pro’s Plugin Link Button ensures you’re always working on the correct track by dynamically updating plugin windows as you switch between tracks.
- How to Use It:
- Open a plugin window.
- Enable the Plugin Link Button (purple link icon).
- Switch tracks, and the plugin window will automatically update to match the selected track.
This feature helps you avoid accidental edits on the wrong track, saving time and confusion.
Final Thoughts
These five tips are just a few ways to take your Logic Pro workflow to the next level. Whether you’re importing settings, reducing latency, or recovering lost performances, these features can save you time and effort while helping you produce your best music.
